1991-1994 Brighton solo gigs,Tuu and various recording sessions

While still at university, and during his year out, Tim and various band musicians began to lay down tracks for a proposed album of completely new material. Drummer Paul Morris returned to the band for the first of these sessions, which included the backing track for a song called Infinite Ocean that Tim had high hopes for. Round about this time Tim also got in touch with Fudge Smith, drummer with Pendragon, and he played on further sessions which included new songs Inside Out, Beautiful Woman, Turn The Vision On and an inspired improvised instrumental co-created with Keith Hastings and Simon Vockings.

In November 1992, working with two friends under the name of Daytrip, Tim made his first dance track with the new cubase technology now installed in Jon Bidgood's Windsor studio. This had begun as a joke among friends but ended up as being a more than passable first attempt at making dance music, a track called Consciousness. Tim had in fact embraced rave culture and dance music since arriving at university in late 1989, having worked on the door at several big events run by Zen in Slough.

First solo gig at The Sanctuary 1993
On 9th December 1993 (a date chosen by Tim for its astrological significance), after a two and a half year break from live gigs, Tim made his first appearance at the downstairs bar of The Sanctuary Cafe in Brighton. Playing a solo set of songs to a candlelit audience of Brighton friends and students, the evening was a great success. A second gig in January 1994, with support from The Amazing Flying Gonzalo Brothers, was another excellent evening for all concerned. The Sanctuary's small size and relaxed and intimate atmosphere was to serve as an ideal live base for Tim and his musical projects to develop over the next few years.

Shortly before Christmas 1993, Tim made his first studio contribution to the music of Tuu, a successful ambient world music trio and old friends. Main man Martin Franklin and keyboard player Mykl O (Michael O'Dempsey) knew Tim from Burnessence days, and Michael and Tim had composed music together since then. Tim laid down a number of experimental guitar parts for Tuu, (again with Jon Bidgood in his Windsor studio) to be used or sampled as they saw fit. Some of these eventually found their way on to the Tuu album Mesh, released on the Fathom label in America. On 23rd November 1994 Tim co-promoted a very successful Tuu gig at the Sanctuary, his role as promoter and door-man not involving any musical contributions!
