Biography

tim burness Tim has worked on and off as a professional astrologer for over 15 years. He first became interested in 1986, when a computer chart correctly forecast the beginning of a new romantic involvement in his life. Since then astrology has played a major part in Tim's life, both as a profound creative tool for self-awareness and sometimes a not so serious tool for having a good laugh!

While teaching himself the basics through extensive study and practice, Tim attended seminars at Liz Greene's Centre for Psychological Astrology in London.

The work of American astrologer Stephen Arroyo also played a major role in the learning process. Early work included several hundred chart readings for the general public at psychic fairs and holistic festivals throughout the South of England.

In 1991, now based at his home in Brighton (England), Tim decided to focus on more personal one-to-one consultations. While studying for a sociology degree at the University of Sussex, he began teaching astrology to small groups on a regular basis, and occasionally giving talks to students.

Over the years there have been many appearances in both local and national media, although generally he is known to distance himself from the trivia of newspaper horoscopes and the like. He has worked as a consultant to MIND, the mental health organization and privately for many successful people. Famous clients have included actress Rula Lenska, popstar Chesney Hawkes, Marillion singer Steve Hogarth and skeptical (he may deny everything!) friend Sir Harry Kroto, the Nobel Prize-winning scientist at the University of Sussex.

Mainly however, Tim has interpreted birth charts for thousands of individuals who have somewhat more ordinary lives! True to his restless Gemini nature,Tim juggles astrology and other spiritual interests with work as a musician, having performed extensively in various bands and released several albums, and as an agency care-worker and nurse in Brighton.

An introduction to the astrological birth chart

To many intelligent and educated people in the western world, the idea that the ancient art and science of astrology might have any genuine profound wisdom to offer is laughable. However, to those who have studied and practised REAL astrology for a few years, it can be more a case of astonishment that astrology has been ignored and abused by our culture for so long.

The birth chart (or horoscope, mine below, born exactly 2.00 a.m. BST, Wembley, London) of an individual has been described as a kind of "road map" for his or her life. It shows the journey that you are on, and the types of experiences and patterns you are going to encounter along the way. In one sense, it shows your destiny and fate, your unique possible contribution to life.

What it does not show, is how you choose to deal with these patterns. In this way, we are each responsible for creating our own reality.

A person's individuality is also influenced by their genetic make-up, the culture they were born into, the social and economic circumstances in early life, and so on. Two people may have very similar charts, both showing enormous potential, but only one may fulfil this potential for one or more of the reasons just described.

Looking at the chart, the familiar Sun sign of the zodiac is represented by a circle with a dot in the middle. This may or may not be very important in the whole of the chart, one of several reasons why people are often not typical examples of their Sun sign.

Each of the other planets are shown on the chart by a little squiggle (!) with numbers next to them. Each one represents a different part of the personality. Due to their position in the chart, we may be more or less comfortable with some parts of our personality than others - I know I am! In fact it is the challenging relationships between planets that give us the greatest opportunity for achievement and personal growth. People with "easy" charts may struggle more to find purpose and meaning in life than those with more obvious problems.

At its best, a balanced interpretation of the astrological birth chart can give one a sense of belonging to life, a sense that it is actually okay to be who one is, and a sense that however often it may appear otherwise, life is unfolding exactly as it is supposed to.

Some main features are a Gemini Sun and Virgo Moon with a heavily aspected Mercury in Gemini and my 4th House. Also a close Mars/Neptune/Jupiter T-square and a Venus/Uranus/Midheaven grand trine in Fire. Aquarius is rising.
